Within 45-minutes of Ashford Castle, guests can visit a number of towns including Castlebar, Westport or the medieval city of Galway. Guests can also play some of the most challenging links courses in the west of Ireland. Westport, home of the pirate queen Grace O’Malley in the 16th century, also features the
pilgrimage mountain Croagh Patrick. Galway, the capital city of the West of Ireland, is known as Ireland’s Cultural Heart and is renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals, celebrations and events.
There are two 'Signature Discovery' points of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way located 40-minutes from Ashford Castle: Killary Harbour and Kylemore Abbey. Ashford Castle is located in the charming village of Cong where the film The Quiet Man was shot on location in 1951 and won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography in 1953.
