Canoeing

Take to the calm waters of Lough Corrib and experience the lake from a different perspective as you enjoy a private canoe tour with a professional local guide. A peaceful and immersive way to explore, this experience offers the chance to slow down and connect with the natural beauty and wildlife that surround the estate.

Our traditional Canadian canoes are spacious and steady, making them ideal for beginners or those simply looking to unwind. With gentle guidance and a few easy tips, you will feel comfortable on the water in no time. Your guide will lead you through Ashford Bay and its neighbouring islands, sharing local knowledge and history along the way, ensuring a safe and memorable time on the water.

Your experience

Each session lasts 120 minutes, including approximately 90 minutes on the water, and includes a qualified instructor, safety briefing, and paddling guidance. Wetsuits are not required.

Your instructor will meet you at the Ashford Castle Concierge or The Lodge Reception to provide a life jacket and wellington boots.

Sessions are available for individuals or groups of up to six guests. Participants must be able to swim unaided, and an instructor will accompany the group on the water throughout.

Each Canadian canoe seats two people. For groups with an odd number of participants, the instructor will share a canoe with one guest. The minimum age is 6 years. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult in the same canoe, with at least one adult present per session.

The Canadian canoe experience is available seasonally from May to September.
