I’m a hostess in George V Dining Room.
What was your background before you worked at Ashford Castle?
Prior to commencing work in Ashford, I worked as a sales assistant in a local grocery store.
What was your first experience of Ashford Castle?
I live locally thus have always known of the castle. My first visit to Ashford was on Mother’s Day almost 30 years ago. It was spectacular and needless to say, a very memorable experience. My mother had a great appreciation of nature and gardening so she particularly enjoyed the stunning grounds of Ashford Castle.
What were your thoughts when you saw the Castle for the first time after the restoration?
I had worked in Ashford before the renovation so it was great to see the attention to detail in the restoration of this beautiful building. Iconic buildings like Ashford Castle deserve to be maintained and restored and the Tollman family have not disappointed.
What does a typical day at Ashford look like for you?
I’m an early riser and enjoy working the early shift as a hostess, beginning my workday at 8am. My main role is to meet, greet and seat our lovely guests. As a chatty, outgoing person, this is a role that I truly enjoy. At the end of my shift, I give a handover to the staff taking over.
What is your favourite part of your role?
Having the opportunity to get to know our guests and make their experience as enjoyable as possible is my favourite part of the role. It’s great to see familiar faces returning to visit us at Ashford Castle.
What do you do to relax when you are not working?
I enjoy gardening in my free time and spending time with my family, especially my new grandson!
What three words would you use to describe Ashford?
Unique, breathtaking, exquisite.
What is the proudest achievement of your time at Ashford Castle?
I received an award from Red Carnation for exceptional service which was a very proud moment.
