A bird-lover’s Eden

Discover the latest sightings around the camp and meet the resident birds...

At Xigera, we are privileged to capture photographs of many different wild animals on our morning game drives with guests. One morning, our leopard Sophie was sleeping in one of her favourite Marula trees. Little to her knowledge one of the bull elephants was walking by underneath...

We also captured this stunning image of one of the lions on a game drive one morning.

You can expect sightings from the comfort of the camp too. Just take a look at this spectacular view from one of our suites...

Xigera is also a bird-lovers' eden, welcoming various migrants across the year and our fellow resident species which can be spotted here at any time...

The above image is of an African Hoopoe. This colourful bird is distinguished within the Okavango Delta by its burnt orange coat and crowned feathers.

This stunning bird is a Woodland Kingfisher, recognised by its striking bright-blue and black feathers. It hunts from low tree branches.

The Fish Eagle can be spotted wherever large bodies of water lie. It can often be heard by its cry and seen in the trees.

The Pied Kingfisher is a boldly marked black and white bird. They are experts at hovering and scanning the water before making their kill.

The Green Pigeon is often detected by their amusing song, which includes whinnies, clicks and whistles. They clamber around but remain well-hidden.
